Confusion in old dogs
Many owners of elderley dogs complain of a change in demeanour of their pet. This is usually manifested by one or two or sometimes all of the following symptoms.
-
Sleeping a lot particularly during the day
-
Disorientation
-
Strange changes of behaviour with other animals or members of the family
-
Restlessness, especially at night
-
Decreased hearing or appearance of such
-
Aimless barking
-
Less desire to remember specific daily events eg going for walks
-
Urinating or defaecating in the house.
If that sounds like your dog, a very important first step...talk to your vet
If your pet is acting oddly in old age the first thing to do is talk to your vet. He/she will rule out the common old age diseases such as:
Your vet may perform blood, urine or other tests to help with his diagnosis.
Once this has been done and we are quite sure that your dog's mental state is due to old age senility your vet will probably suggest any number of conventional products. I personally prefer a natural approach.
